Eeek! It's December 21.

I think I'm almost done with my yuletide story. I have to be, right? :) I'm a little bummed, because I actually did want to take it slash like my recipient requested, and it is stubbornly not going there. It COULD, mind you. It's just

a.) I'm running out of time, and

b.) it would take a long time to do it right. The source material is set around the 40s-50s, and although I don't think my two characters would be at all homophobic, I just don't know that homosexual love would OCCUR to them for a long time. (The author of my source material would disagree, incidentally, striking down my theory that it's generally religious people that are homophobic as she's a big-time atheist, but that's not a deal killer.) It would take these two guys a while to get that they're in love, and then what the hell to do about it. Oh well.

My title cracks me up, though :)

Oh well. Must hit the post office and the grocery store, and then I after I put the kids to bed I can finish and post. I want to be posting by 4, in case I have trouble with the server.

Nothing like last minute. UGH.

(On the bright side, I had a lot longer than I thought on my BSG secret santa, so I can have LOTS of fun with that. Anyone want to beta? I promise the pairing will not offend anyone on my f-list.)

Right. Real life, and then yuletide.

And then booze or chocolate :)

Anyone else watching "The Sing-Off"? I'm a total sucker for a capella, and we've been fans of the Tufts Beelzebubs for years. (They're my favorites, followed by Nota, although I didn't care for their Jackson 5 medley. Although that might be because I'm not crazy about Jackson 5.) Fun show, though. Go 'Bubs! (The 1999 groups' version of Pink Floyd's "The Trial" is AMAZING.)

Being a mother is totally random. Things I did today:

1.) Bought an angler fish, a squid, a puzzle, and a block table.

2.) Cleared a light saber and two whales off the couch.

3.) Constantly opened the doors on Trevor's car and wiped his nose over and over.

4.) Watched Ice Age 3, Dawn of the Dinosaurs.

5.) Told Toby to stop demonstrating how the Avatar hammerheads breed in the middle of McDonald's. (I'm serious. He and Trevor each got one, and Toby decided one was a male and one was a female, and that this was how they breed. Damn nature shows. The old couple sitting behind him was laughing so hard that the guy literally had to wipe a tear away.)

And that doesn't count all the other stuff that was less random, liking cooking dinner or not being able to get either kid down for a nap or taking Toby to preschool or anything like that.

Yeah. Motherhood is just weird some days.

On the total upside, last night Toby ate an egg roll, chicken kung pao (homemade) and mandarin oranges. If you had told me a year ago that the kid who only ate baby oatmeal and yogurt was going to eat an EGG ROLL, I never would have believed you. Damn, we've come a long way.

Must get writing. I've got a review of 2012, my [info]yuletide fic, some meme ficlets, and my [info]gaeta_squee secret santa fic. Busy busy busy.

Whew. Had the boys' birthday party yesterday. It went very well. I made this cake. I didn't have the right icing tip, so my blocks didn't come out as nicely, but DAMN was it GOOD. A rich, moist dark chocolate cake wrapped around vanilla and chocolate (full fat Breyers) ice cream and frosted with white chocolate buttercream. I am a cooking GODDESS.

I also made Milky Way tarts, only I resized them so they were bite sized. I just used mini muffin tins. Recipe was yummy as always. However, we had WAY too much food. I was expecting more dads, and I also originally thought more of Howard's family was coming. They let me know that they weren't, but still. Anyway, the kids were all very well-behaved and had a lot of fun. I got a bunch of suncatchers that they painted and we had a pinata, and the boys got some great gifts. (We didn't tell everyone it was a joint birthday party. Some of Toby's friends from preschool came, and I didn't want them to feel like they needed to get Trevor something.)

Birthday boys (and cake!) below the cut )

Now, I need to get moving on Christmas and ficathons. It sounds like my MIL is NOT going to let me cook Christmas dinner, which is sort of a bummer but also... oh well, y'know? Certain battles aren't necessarily worth fighting, and we're worn out. (If she doesn't want shrimp cocktail, homemade manicotti and homemade meatballs, and dark chocolate peppermint tart, that's her prerogative, right? :) )

Hope you're all having a good weekend!

Look at the shiny new header that [info]rayruz made for me! Isn't it pretty? :):)

Question, though. Is there a way I can get it centered? It doesn't seem to want to cooperate, and my head is starting to ache. Suggestions?

::grins widely again::
